February Favorites

I might have started a new semester last month, but now I’m back into the swing of things. This month I started research for a paper I’m writing for an upcoming symposium. So far, so good! Also, I booked a ticket to go to Hawaii over Spring Break. I’ve been hitting it hard at the gym in preparation. Slowly, my plans are coming together for the summer. Between taking classes and a possible volunteer opportunity, the summer of 2018 will be insane (in a good way). Life is good right now.

Annie’s Shells & Cheese Mac & Cheese

As healthy as I try to be, I sometimes let myself indulge in my cravings. At the beginning of the month, I was craving Velveeta’s white cheese mac and cheese. They didn’t have that in the store, so I grabbed this. So glad I did. My roommate showed me a hack to make this in the microwave, but still, it’s best made on the stove top. For something as unhealthy as mac and cheese, I was surprised that it had 10 grams of protein in a serving. It doesn’t have a lot of weird ingredients that normally give it a longer shelf life.

Calvin Klein Hoodie

The second wave of winter just hit Kansas, so it was nice having this hoodie around to put on. You never see this shade of blue on hoodies. I think what’s interesting about this is that it has side slits on it. There is no way I paid $60 for this. I bought mine at my local Sam’s Club for less than $30.

American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace

Last month, the new season of American Crime Story premiered. I was hooked from episode one; the new cast is outstanding. Now halfway through the season, I can say during next award season this show will win BIG. I’m expecting that this show will be added to Netflix soon after it ends because that’s what they did last season with The People vs. OJ Simpson.

Celebrity Big Brother

Though I’m not quite a super fan, I’ve enjoyed the last couple seasons of Big Brother. This celebrity centered season is no exception. My roommate and I watch it religiously most nights of the week.

The first thing I bought for my upcoming trip was this wallet from Forever 21. I have a love-hate relationship with Forever 21, so I tend to only buy accessories from them. I wasn’t looking for a new wallet, but I was getting tired of the old card holder that I was using. This way I can have more than just my debit card and ID on me. This might seem silly, but my favorite thing about it is that it opens up. When I enter my building, I have to scan my student ID to unlock the door. Now I don’t even have to take it out.

New Year. New Me. Yeah, right! Though I’m excited for a few of my projects I’m currently working on, it’s just the same old, same old in my neck of the woods. After sleeping my life away during the first half of the month, I started my second semester of college. I have a feeling that my classes are going to be easy, but i’m still counting down the days until summer.

Under Armour Bag

On the weekends, I go back home which causes me to have to pack a bag. I have a lot of stuff, so my backpack wasn’t cutting it. I’ve been using my nasty old color guard bag and my dad’s duffel bag. Thankfully, my thoughtful mother bought me a new duffel bag for Christmas. The best part of it was that it has side pockets for shoes so that my clothes don’t get dirty. I can’t find the exact same bag online, but this one is pretty much the same.

Color Design Sensational Effects Lipstick 329 Love It (Cream)

Another Christmas gift was this Lancôme lipstick. I’ve always loved the color design lipsticks, but I’d never spent more than $10 on a lipstick. I guess this came in a gift pack that you get when you spend so much at the makeup counter, but this is a nice color for my skin. Normally lipsticks are too pink, but this is just nice enough for it to work.

Naked Ultimate Basics

I’ve just been wanting a change of pace in my eye makeup. I do like glittery and the metallic eyeshadows, but I’d wanted to try out a matte pallet. I wanted something more natural looking, as I went through a phase of really dark and smokey eyeshadows. Online right now there isn’t a lot of options. That was, until I found The Naked Basics pallet. Last month I bought this, it was under $30. I’m assuming that it was discounted because Urban Decay is going to stop production of this pallet or something. I love all twelve of the colors, particularly the shades Instinct and Extra Bitter. Also, I’m using Black Jack for my brows filler.

Black Leggings

Just like every other girl on campus, I own black leggings. I just picked these up because it has dramatically gotten colder over break. I thought I’d trade in my shorts and capri leggings at the gym. There isn’t anything special about them; I just bought them at Old Navy when I was there. It’s also nice to wear them under jeans when it’s extra cold out.

2017 Favorites

Where did the year go? Once again, I kept busy between my schooling and my somewhat little social life that I have. In May, I graduated high school and finally went to Canada. Later in fall, I started college with more than 30 credit hours under my belt. During the semester I joined Lambda Alpha Honor Society & became its new treasurer. Along with that, I joined Student Council & started volunteering at a museum.

Looking back on the goals I set for this year, I’ve only actually accomplished one and a half of them. I shouldn’t set any goals in 2018 because more likely than not I will not follow through with them.

Anyway, 2018 is going to be about investing in myself and the future. I don’t know what that means for me yet, but I’ll keep you updated.

Sugared Amber Dream Perfume

This is the closest it comes to me having a signature scent. This perfume was gifted to me from my mom last Christmas, and I’ve been wearing it almost every day since. It’s sweet but not overpowering. I like that it’s in a rollerball so I can throw it in my bag.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

Dewy Smooth 110- Porcelain

This foundation has changed the way I wear makeup. I’ve never found any drugstore foundation that provides this much coverage. It’s easy to blend in and build upon. Let’s just say this saved my butt in wedding photos this year when I broke out in hives the day of my sister’s wedding.

Tony Moly I’m Real Sheet Masks Rice & Aloe

I’ve finally jumped on the Korean beauty train! Tony Moly masks became a skin care staple for me. Mainly, I regularly use the Rice (for clear skin) & Aloe (for dry skin).

Roku Express

Unless you have a smart TV or game console, you need a Roku player. Just like the Google Chrome or Fire Stick, it’s just one way you can stream media into your tv. Why I chose this over its competitors is that it’s a little cheaper & comes with a remote.

While in Victoria, B.C. this summer, I’ve discovered the best store in the world. Roots is a Canadian store that specializes in Canada appeal & leather goods. I could spend some serious money in there.

White Converses

I’m one of the messiest people in the world. So I tend to stay away from white clothing because I know I’ll have it destroyed before I even walk out the door. On a limb, I bought these white converse while on a girls weekend in Kansas City. Between these and my black Nikes, I wear these almost every day.

Gold Choker

I wish I’d kept the tag on this necklace because I have no clue who makes this choker. All I know is that I got this at Dillard’s during their semi-annual sale. I love wearing this with V-neck tops.

Sailor Alpaca

Every year, two of my friends go to A-Kon in Dallas, and this year they picked me up this little plushy. I named him Eric.

American Vandal

american v.jpeg

This is one of the tightest written and produced shows of this year. Everything is there for a reason, and honestly there is no filler in it. It’s short enough that you can watch it in one evening. Great characters and can’t wait until season 2.

I’ve decided to split up my favorite shows into steaming & live. Because at least here in the US I’m able to watch Riverdale live each week. Though it is totally binge worthy, I like it better watching it live each week. Riverdale is the definition of an edgy teen adaptation. But it works! The first season was amazing, and the second season is just as good.

I just couldn’t talk about one movie that I liked this year, so I narrowed it down to 10. Back in July, I made a list of my favorite films from the first half of the year. A couple of those picks have changed around. I’m going to put a quick summary with each one in case you haven’t heard of it.

1.) A Cure for Wellness- A German-American horror movie that will make you hate eels.

2.) Lady Bird- Charming coming of age drama about a girl who is trying to find herself.

lady bird.jpg

3.) Baby Driver- After a getaway driver falls in love, he tries to leave his life of crime behind him. – Killer Soundtrack-

4.) Thor: Ragnarok- Thor has to save Asgard, but he gets stuck on a prison planet. He ends up teaming up with an old ally to save the world.

5.) Kong: Skull Island (Read my review here)- Two-hour symbolism for the Vietnam War with a giant ape.

6.) IT- Adaptation of the Stephen King novel about a killer clown.

7.) Logan- Hugh Jackman’s emotional goodbye to the X Men franchise.

8.) Atomic Blonde- A new wave fueled Cold War spy thriller.

9.) Lucky Logan- A poor man’s Ocean’s 11.

10.) Murder on the Orient Express- The star-studded adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel.

My favorite music this year is a combination of both old & new.

November Favorites

Goodbye November! IT’S OFFICIALLY THE HOLIDAY SEASON! Time to put up my tree, take a few finals for class, bake some cookies, and jam out to Last Christmas by Wham. But first, let’s get to my favorite things of this month.

Maybelline Master Glow Highlighter

I can’t believe it took me this long to jump on the highlighter train. I’ll basically try anything Maybelline comes out with, and once again they have come out with a hit. At least on my pale skin, this looks more like an orange-brown rather than gold. I’m not mad at this at all as it’s like a metallic bronzer on me. It especially looks great on the upper cheek up into the forehead.

Anyone who knows me personally or read my Canadian adventure post knows I love Canada. I hope in a few years my education can take me up there to grad school. (Fingers crossed!) As any semi-rebellious college girl does, I got a tattoo. Since I’ve turned 18, I’ve been thinking about getting one, but I wanted to wait to go with my friends. Fast forward to two weeks ago, they still haven’t gotten them. So I took matters into my own hands. That morning I woke up and thought “I think I’ll get a tattoo today”, so I did. I’ve kind of fell in love with the design on Ink Box, but instead of a temporary one from them I got one that isn’t coming off. Thank you so much, Jered! I love it!

Duck Boots

One thing that nobody tells you about going to college is that you need to wear comfortable shoes all the time. This should be a no-brainer, but I don’t ever listen to people’s advice. Even though all of my classes are fairly close, I do walk at least five miles a day getting around campus. Especially living in Kansas, you never know what the weather is going to be like. One hour it might be raining and the other you might be in 30 mph winds. So I decided it was time to turn in my heeled boots for duck boots. I’ve always like Sperry boots, but not the price tag. These shoes I found at Target are almost identical to the Saltwater style of Sperry, just without the logo on the back. They keep me warm with inner lining and keep my feet dry during wet days.

Essie Nail Polish- Bikini So Teeny

For the past year or so Essie has been my go-to nail polish brand. It’s on the higher priced side of drugstore brand, but in my opinion it has the longest staying power. I’ve always been terrible at painting my nails, so I still force my mom to do it on the weekends. Though it’s more of a spring color, I’m going to be wearing this all year round.

Thor: Ragnarok

Since Thor was introduced in the MCU, he was definitely my least favorite character. I’m not going to lie – he’s nice to look at, but his movies never hit home with me. This all changed at the beginning of the month when I saw Thor: Ragnarok. I’ve never laughed so much in a theatre before. The new direction that Marvel has been taking since Avengers 2 has been a blast! Taika Waititi’s vision for the God of Thunder is fantastic. The other two Thor films tried too hard to be grounded in reality and should have had more fun with it. From the first scene it basically just said we were going to embrace all the weirdness of the comics. By the way, it’s god damn funny. There is one scene particularly where Thor is telling a story about Loki turning into a snake, which I couldn’t stop laughing at. Never in a million years would I ever had thought to say that I liked a Thor movie more than Justice League. #shotsfired

November Mix

October Monthly Favorites

As we shift into the Holiday Season, I find myself asking where did the year go. Last month was crazy busy with school, which kind of explains why I’m uploading this halfway into November already. But as they say, time flies when you’re having fun.

EyeStudio Brow Precise Micro Pencil

For the past year, I’ve been filling in my eyebrows using Maybelline Eye Studio Brow Define and Fill Duo in Deep Brown, but I finally finished using the whole pencil. Instead of repurchasing it, I wanted to try something new. If you read my makeup routine post from last month, you would know the Brow Duo was a direct color match for me. For about three weeks now I’ve been using the Brow Precise Micro Pencil. It’s the same great color and formula of the Brown Duo but in a thinner tip. This helps you control the product more, and the spoolie end helps shape the hairs.

Hoola Bronzer

The cult classic Hoola bronzer has always been on my wishlist. What kept me away was the thought of spending $30 on a single makeup product. I usually stick to drugstore brands because I like to try new products. While at Ulta I found that Benefit makes a mini version now. Even for a pale girl like me, this will give you a sunkissed glow (as long as you blend it out well).

Love Sweater

Actually, I bought this sweater a few months ago and saved it until the cold weather. If the past couple weeks are any indication, winter is coming. Right now it’s the right time to break out my sweaters for the year. The shirt itself is standard for Old Navy, but what makes it stand apart is the detailing on the wording. The inside of LOVE is made of red velvet. It’s just a cozy sweatshirt that’s going to keep me warm until spring rolls around.
American Vandal

Palm Party copy
If you caught my post from two weeks ago before it was taken down, or if you’ve seen the show, American Vandal might be the best TV series of 2017. It’s the true crime style of drama and turns it into a comedy mockumentary. American Vandal is about a high school senior who is accused of vandalizing his teachers’ cars. The eight episodes takes about four hours to finish. Personally, I think it’s best if you binge-watch them back to back which isn’t hard because it’s addictive. Once the mystery starts, you aren’t going to stop until you find out who sprayed the graffiti. The ending is fairly open-ended, leaving it up to the viewers to make their own decisions. However, they are making a second season.

The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero

According to my friends, listening to audiobooks is not considered reading. I have no clue what they are talking about because I’m getting the same content, but just in another format. (My mini rant is over now.) Though actually I finished it last month, I didn’t complete The Disaster Artist until after I posted last month’s favorites post. If you haven’t heard of the book, it’s about the real life friendship that the film The Room is based on. It’s entertaining, endearing, and most of all god damn funny. The Disaster Artist is currently available on Audible.

Burt’s Bees Lipstick

Time after time I keep going back to Burt’s Bees beauty products. The main reason I like this is that unlike other drugstore lipsticks, it isn’t overly waxy. Also a lot of drugstore brands have shifted toward the liquid and matte lipstick trend, but I still enjoy the creamy and glossy look of regular lipstick. You really can’t go wrong with a nude lip color either!  This color leans towards the pinker side of nude, but I think it’s still a good match for me.

Movie Pass

I’ve made it one of my goals for the year to see more movies in theaters. Being on a college gal’s budget, I have to draw the line somewhere. With the Movie Pass card, I can see a new movie every day of the month for $10. It’s magical! All you have to do is check in at the door of the theater. Then funds are transferred into the card in order to pay for it.

Nature Valley Granola Crunchy Oats N Honey

There is nothing like a big bag of granola to hit the spot after a long workout at the gym. Just kidding, it’s basically full of sugar. Though that doesn’t stop me from eating it as a snack.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Vinyl

When it comes to music, it’s rare for me to like a whole album. That’s why I love greatest hits albums and movie soundtracks. You get a little of everything. Just like the Guardian’s film, this features both the film score and the soundtrack.

August Favorites

Now that August has passed, I’m officially in fall mode. Bring on the pumpkin spice lattes and long sleeves. Some of these items were featured in my dorm room tour, but now I’m going to be more detailed on why I bought them.

Classic Utility Shirt Jacket

Honestly, Old Navy has the most amazing sales out there. This year for back to school shopping, I picked out everything while I was in the store itself. Later, I ordered it online when they had 40% off with free shipping. I picked this up because I thought this shirt was different than everything else I own. It’s a bit too warm for it right now, so I’ll be wearing this more in a month when it cools down. It looks fantastic with the warm tones of my hair and can be layered or worn on its own.

Darley End Table – Threshold

If you read the last post on my dorm room, you probably saw my new side table. I’m kind of picky when it comes to furniture, and this might be the best purchase I’ve ever made. In this day and age of technology, I’m always on my phone. This means my phone is always dead. If you flip up the top panel of the table, it reveals a plug-in. It’s nice to have when I’m working late at night, and when I need to charge my laptop it’s already there.

MAYBELLINE FaceStudio Master Camo Color Correcting Pen

By nature, I have very red pigmented skin. My ELF green primer mutes the redness a little, but this is basically just green concealer. Either you can dab it on or put it on all over. On top of that, you need to layer on foundation to conceal the green. It works because, like many are aware of, green cancels out red on the color wheel.

Rolling Laundry Hamper

Though I love living in a dorm, the one thing I hate is doing laundry. Especially because your laundry room is on another floor. I have two of these hampers, one for wet towels and another for clothes. On laundry day, I just have to throw everything in the basket and go down the elevator.

Monthly Playlist

June Favorites + Playlist

Now that June has passed, I’m at the halfway mark of my summer break. Thinking back, I haven’t done much since I had my birthday at the beginning of the month; all I’ve done is studied and written essays for my summer classes. One goal of mine for July is to do something at least once a week – to get out of my PJs and have an adventure with my friends. I think now I’m also going to make a monthly playlist on Spotify, so this month’s songs will be listed below.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish

One skill I’ve never mastered is painting my nails. When I get the chance to get them done, I want them to last. Normally gel polish has to bake on, but this formula dries like normal polish yet has the strength of gel. This summer I recommend the colors 184 Frill Seeker, 419 Redgy, and 240 It Girl.

Sailor Stuffed Alpaca

Japanese kawaii culture is the definition of cute. (Literally and figuratively) Every summer, my two best friends go to a convention in Dallas and come back to show off their cool merch. This month, they picked up a stuffed sailor alpaca. IT’S SO CUTE! I love alpacas and llamas so much. It goes perfectly with my other alpaca named Eric.
Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow Carousel 288

It seems like my recent go-to look has been a red smoky eye, but I’ve been experimenting with purple shadows this month. You get that bright pop of color without being too crazy. Typically shimmery shadows like this aren’t as long lasting as this is. Sephora’s in-store brand makeup is really underrated compared to others in its price category.
Louise et Cie Kambria Heels

I don’t normally buy shoes, but when I saw these I couldn’t say no. Neutral shoes like these can be worn all year long and year after year. That’s why I don’t feel bad investing in pieces like these. Chunky heels make the shoe easier to walk in and gives you some support.

Anna Griffin Thank You Cards

Thank you cards are always good to have on hand. The pink marveling and metallic lettering just stands out compared to other boxed cards.

June Playlist

May Favorites

IT’S SUMMERTIME BABY! School is finally out, and I got my high school diploma; the world is mine for the taking! At least until I go to college in the fall.

Prom Dress

Though technically it’s an April favorite of mine, my prom didn’t take place until after my April Favorites were posted. Unlike last year, I didn’t shop around looking for a dress because I bought it from the first store I went in to. Once I saw it, I quickly fell in love with this floral A-Line gown from Rachel Allan.

While in Canada, my best friend and I were on the hunt for Canadian souvenirs. After going into endless junk shops, a store with the front decorated with a giant Canadian flag and beaver intrigued us. Roots is a Canadian chain store that specializes in leather goods and overpriced Canadian apparel. Everything inside was so Canadian, and I just couldn’t handle it.IMG_4073.JPG

Big Little Lies

I’ve been watching a lot of HBO this month because we got a subscription, and I don’t really have anything better to do. It’s basically about first graders with rich helicopter moms that stars Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz.

Fit Me Foundation

Finding the perfect drugstore foundation for your skin isn’t an easy task. I’ve used the same one for two years and it was time to switch it up. After a month of use, I can say this is the most full coverage drugstore liquid foundation I’ve ever used. It’s comparable to Clinique Redness Solution foundation that I used in the past. There is two different formulas of this from the Fit Me line made by Maybelline – the dewier one made for drier skin and matte formulas for oilier skin.

Dream Big Candle

I don’t burn candles often enough to stock up on them, but I usually buy a new three wick candle each season. Though it’s just a repackaging of Tiki Beach, the Dream Big candle features a fun message that’s perfect for gift giving. The scent of Tiki Beach is more masculine compared to other summer scents, as it is a blend of Vanilla Musk, Orchids, and Toasted Coconut.

April Favorites

April is my favorite month of the year. I’m not sure why, but I think it has to do with something involving the weather. It’s not too hot, not too cold, and all you need is a light jacket. (If you understand that reference, you’re awesome.) Like every other month, I discover a new bunch of monthly favorites.

Kindle Fire Tablet

I’ve recently sold off my Wii U that I solely used for watching Amazon Prime and Netflix. I decided to test out one of Amazon’s tablets. Though I haven’t played around with it, it works seamlessly while I stream shows. Originally I was getting the 8GB version, but now that you can download shows on Netflix, it was a smart choice to get double the storage for an extra $20. Unlike the iPad, it also has external storage and charges fast.

Teardrop Ear Jackets

Ever since I’ve discovered Baublebar, I’ve been obsessed with the jewelry. The only downside is that it’s overpriced for the quality of it. When I found out that Baublebar was teaming up with Target, I must say I was over the moon with excitement. From the collection, my favorite piece is the teardrop ear jackets, but the beaded tassel earrings are a close second.

Aussie 3 Minutes Miracle Moist

Naturally, I have dry hair and dying it and hot tools don’t help. I’ve been using Aussie 3 Minutes Miracle Moist mask on and off for the past two years, but I finally repurchased it this month. Though nothing replaces a good haircut to get rid of split ends, using this twice a week has done wonders to my hair.

Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System

This month I’ve been focusing more on my skin so that it looks nice for upcoming events. I use this brush in combination with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Foaming Scrub Pink Grapefruit and Olay Age Defying Classic Cleanser. This model is really similar to the Clarisonic Cleansing Brush, but it’s way more affordable. Personally, I feel like it cleans deeper than any normal washcloth or cleaning device can.
